Construction of three huge basketball arenas in Lithuania

This can lead to bigger development of infrastructure in Lithuania and other Baltic countries.

In Lithuania, they are building three huge basketball arenas in Alytus, Kaunas and Klaipéda. There will be European championship in 2011(EuroBasket? 2011). In Lithuania basketball is very popular sport, we can say it is national sport. We expect more championships there, such as world championships. We expect more income people and more tourism.

• This can cause more development of roads, especially highways to south for connection to Poland and to north for connection to Latvia. If there will be good highways in Lithuania it can cause also development of highways in Latvia and Estonia. We expect mostly development of a corridor from Poland through Kaunas, Riga towards to Tallinn.
This can have a big impact for road transport in this region, especially for connection of eastern and middle Europe to ports in Klaipéda, Riga and Tallinn.

• We expect also development of airports in Vilnius and Kaunas. A lot of people will travel there by plane, especially from countries such as Spain or USA. Of course this development will be mostly for passenger transportation, but it can help also transportation of goods.

Attendance in last WORLD basketball championship in year 2010 was in average 15000 visitors. The total number of teams was 16. It means that number of people from teams can be around 1200. When we count fans for whole championship we can´t take number of matches multiplied by average visitor’s number. 15x4 matches in groups. Plus 16 matches in final part of tournament. It is 76 matches. We have to multiply this number by factor of same visitors in more matches. It can be around 7. It means around 11x15000=165000 people. From this number is usual one half home visitors (in this case 82500 people). Plus people from teams, it means around 85000 people from other countries. And it was World championship and in Lithuania will be European championship with only 16 teams and no team from USA, like you have written. So it can be around 50000 people. Do you really think, that this amount of people can be so problematic for Lithuanian infrastructure and roads, that they will build something so

When we take a look to map of Lithuania, we can see, that this three cities where will be played this tournament are somehow in one line. I think it is not without purpose. It means that it is really possible, that there will be built or repaired new roads or railway connection between Klaipéda and Kaunas, after between Kaunas and Alytus and maybe also between Kaunas and Vilnius. Three roads. It could help for better connection on the way Minsk-Vilnius-Kaunas-Klaipéda (harbor) and this way it could help any forwarders in Baltic region. But there are two questions. Does it right now the condition of this ways so bad, or it is so good, that organizers have chosen these three towns for tournament just because of this? The second question is about amount of visitors in tournament. For better imagination some numbers:
