Wild Wild Middle Europe no more!

Rejuvenation of the Czech politic scene, stricter punishment for bribery and system transparency are necessary to smash corruption in the Czech Republic.

It is clear that situation in Czech Republic needs to be changed, high corruption addressed and the trust in official institutions restored.

I believe that the statement about the set example by politicians is partially true. Politicians usually are not punished for any bribery or corruption. Sometimes it even happens that when a one is suspected by another individual from illegal actions, the second individual is actually brought to investigation. Turning attention to somebody else MUST mean you yourself have stuff to hide.

There are three things that would, I believe, dramatically change this situation. First of all, more young professionals should be involved in politics. Perhaps they do not have the same knowledge and life experience; but is that “tabula rasa” not what we would need right now? Enthusiasm, ideals and motivation!

Secondly we need stricter laws, follow up and clear communication of the punishment connected with corruption. Furthermore I believe that a non-governmental organization needs to be involved in this process. It just does not feel real when politicians make laws “for themselves”.

And finally, Czech Republic needs some transparency in the whole system including publicly accessible company and personal bank accounts and financing. There really are several things the Czechs should learn from the Scandinavian countries!
