A simple silicone breast model at doctor’s offices to gain experience with breast cancer lump identification.

The main problem with self examination to detect breast cancer in early stages is connected with several problems. These problems are the changing and versatile breast tissue, which is making the identification of tumors challenging without earlier experience. The second problem is the psychological effect of the diagnosis and denial of the existing problem.

For the first problem I do have a simple and effective solution. There are so many products on the market of plastic surgery with breast implants or with post-mastectomy breast silicone forms. These forms and products would be very easy to construct a breast model of with all the physiological structures and with pathological changes. These would be placed at normal doctor’s office where everybody could actually touch and experience how a lump feels. Such concrete knowledge could also help in the phase of the denial, since the patient would know what is normal and what needs to be proceeded based on serious suspicion.

Further action should be also undertaken with the education. It could be beneficial to organize lectures implemented in normal curriculum at second grade schools. These lectures would inform about the possible risks in order to increase the awareness and reduce panic and denial.
