Problem in tourism: accommodation opportunities during summer’s music events
In Finland there are several events around the country during summer, for example music festivals. Almost every weekend there is some big festival, in Midsummer there are even several. A traveller has various options to choose from which he or she would prefer. Every event has had enough crowd at least so far. The number of festival visitors may have been low because of bad weather or cancelling of a performer. Several music festivals have been developing and expanding during years and the number of visitors has gone up. This brings an issue in accommodation. Many events take place in smaller cities, for example Seinäjoki and Joensuu. The growing number of people can become a problem in accommodation. Already the visitors of music festivals have realised that it can be difficult to find accommodation. Hotel rooms are booked for artists and their crews. The rest of the rooms are booked quickly. Some of the visitors don’t want to sleep in a tent in campsite. They prefer sleeping indoors. The organizers have been arranging school accommodation in local schools where it is possible to rent a mattress. There hasn’t been enough places in school accommodation for visitors and they all get booked quickly. In many cities there are also no hostel or summer accommodation opportunities. There are surely some accommodations in local homes, but it is hard to find out about them.
