Tourists in Tampere: lack of tourist information

It might not be easy for tourists arriving in Tampere to find adequate information about where to go, what to see and how to get around.

Although the tourist information office located at the railway station is very good and has a friendly staff with lots of information to give out, it might be difficult for foreigners to find it if they are arriving in Tampere e.g. by air or bus, and not by train. Even then, the tourist information office can be somewhat hard to find, as it is not very well advertised inside the railway station. There should be more tourist information available all over town to make getting around and finding sights and attractions easier for visitors.
The problem with tourists coming via Ryanair, for example, is that they don´t have a tourist information desk to go to at the airport. Granted, there are some brochures available at arrival, but we don´t think they provide visitors with enough information. The bus that takes you from the airport straight to the central bus station is all well and good, but from there, if the traveller hasn´t found out about things beforehand, it might be difficult for visitors to find their way.
One big problem with the already existing tourist information office is that there are no signs anywhere around Tampere to lead you to it. While researching this, we asked a few random local people in town to direct us to it, and two out of three didn´t know where it was. Overall, there should be more information about the tourist information centre displayed around the town.
The tourist information office should also market themselves on Tampere´s website more efficiently. You can find information on their location etc. but they could have their advert somewhere on the front page, too. This would make it easier for first-time visitors to find information about Tampere easily before arriving. Lots of marketing is done through the web these days, and we think it would be an efficient tool in promoting the tourist information centre, i.e. visitor friendliness, in Tampere.
