End of the web era, end of a generation

Do you dream to own microsoft.com ? If you ever have, let it just be a dream because the internet era is coming to an end and judgement day is on its way.

Since the .com bubble in the early 00's, believe it or not Internet has changed our present and even future. Today, a large number of business and banking activities are impossible to imagine without on-line. It is hard to imagine a life without internet. But have you ever wondered where we are moving to with this .com thing ? what is our internet future ? have you ever wondered, why you can not own Microsoft.com ? or have you ever faced a problem in establishing your company with the name that you wished to choose but later you found that somebody else owns it ?

If you have, you know it already. yes, its the fight of presence on the internet. Its the fight about domain names since a domain name with a TLD extension can be taken only once although there has been a new idea of utilizing it in a different way, that's not going to solve the problem however. Generic domain names are almost not available now a days. This becomes even more challenging to start something entrepreneurial. In other words, when internet is supposed to open and widen our world, the future seems to be a bit narrow.

Top level domain names gives you a better position on-line. It has been reported that almost all five letter domain names are coming to an end which raises the question, can other domain extensions fulfil the shortage of the .com domains ? Can they give you a better presence online when approaching a global audience ?

Research question: How effectively can we solve domain shortage problem ?
