Social dilemma of Facebook

Its no wonder that Facebook changed the way we interact with people. No other social networking site went this deep into our social life as Facebook. You will notice people networking with each other on buses, trains and even when flying. However, this social network is creating some social dilemma in our lives.

Facebook and twitter are no doubt two social networking engines that changed the world forever from the way we interact with each other to the way marketing is done. The database of faces has been documenting thousands of new faces each day which currently hold more than a half billion users in its database. Recently David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin's movie The social network has received much attention and Facebook is now ever more known worldwide. Who knew the transformation and innovation in the internet would be such vast that humanity will depend much of their lives based on the net.

Even though there is a minimum age set by Facebook for creating an account, any minor can create an account since there is no real authentication. As minors join Facebook, even though there are good sides, there are always those bad social dilemmas that are very hard to manage such as misusing Facebook.

There are lot of app ads on Facebook that are pornographic or adult content that automatically posted on your wall without you realizing. So many related companies marketing on the site that has questionable content. The once popular ancestor of Facebook, Myspace was messed up of because of this sort of ads. Facebook pages and unmonitored apps now create social problem and as minors are joining Facebook everyday, Facebook must monitor their content and apps made on their site and or used, with macroscopic eye. Internet is an opportunity for mankind but unless managed properly every opportunity might turn into a threat. Watch out !
