BENEFITS OF ECOLOGICAL CONSTRUCTIONS
Ecological construction is thought to be unnecessary. Benefits of it has not been seen and understood yet. Traditional industry questions its necessity.
Ecological construction is future way to think and to build. It is the way to diminish the climate change. Sustainable development and smaller carbon footprint are the key factors in saving the environment.
Concrete construction and renovating the concrete buildings is more expensive than wood construction. Wood construction is more cost-effective and time saving. A good example of wood construction is in Riihimäki, where concrete building was renovated with wood elements (reference attached).
Fire safety was long time thought to be problem. Finnish legislation has changed so that it allows nowadays to build even eight floor houses with wood elements.
Instead of traditional way of heating (oil, nuclear power), using e.g. wind, solar power and district heating are the future options.
By choosing renewable insulation materials, you can multiple the benefits of energy savings. Instead of using glass wool, flax insulation, cellulose and material made of recycled paper (Ecovilla) are more ecological options.
In the economical point of view wood construction is crucial to Finland because we have forests which are renewable resources. This will also bring new jobs and industry to the country. In the long run it will increase innovation.
