Squeezer sponge for sucking water from eroded soil, solution for overflooding

Rising sea levels may lead to rising river levels as well. Rivers overflow and make vast areas of land go under water. The water penetrates different layers of soil making it eroded and unusable for urban environment. The water could be eliminated from under the soil in order to protect the solidness of soil.

We have developed a solution to the problem – ‘slow flood’ caused by rising sea level which has a direct impact on soil erosion using the principle of sponge-kind of material absorbing a liquid.
If there is a huge amount of water under upper soil layers there is a possibility of collecting this water by sucking it through our ‘squeezer sponge’ which can be planted underground in various places. The sponges will be covered by a thick plastic cylindrical shaped vessel which will have three openings. The first opening will be for the air pressure (through the pump) to squeeze the sponge on the top of the vessel so that after there is the water collected in the sponge it can go down where after it is collected in the tray. The tray is followed by the pipe where water goes under the same pressure. The second opening will be on both sides of the machine for water to come into the vessel and stay in the sponge. The third (the tray and the pipe) will let the water go to another similar vessel which collects all the water from other sponges (so, there is a net of sponges). This cylinder acts as a pump which takes the water by a sophisticated pump and pipe system. The water is then distributed to different places like plants where it can be used for industrial purposes. Also, there is air all around the sponge so it can absorb the air once the pump is lifted for new incoming amounts of water.
Along with sucking there can be a water purifier technically inbuilt into the system, e.g. the material of the sponge can contain some carbon acids or whatever chemicals which can be used for purifying the water.
By implementing this kind of innovation, the soil can be drained and the amounts of it prevented from being over-saturated.
The innovation can take place if there can be a good material for sponge invented, e.g. all the needed water capacity met along with the possibility of adding purifying chemicals. If it succeeds in chemical usage, the water can even be distributed to houses as drinking water. Also, the optimal depth for installing the machine has to be investigated in every area for this ‘sponge’ usage.

Sounds like some sort of an artificial swamp. It does not really need chemicals for purification, in Finland water is purified by spraying it through gravel.
Great topic and huge environmental issue nowadays'.
Could be interesting to create a prototype for new sponge material with purified chemicals.
