Methodolocial ideas and thoughts about a study of effective management in a change situation
Methodological considerations about a study about change management in two universities of applied sciences in south-eastern Finland. In order to gather the information from all aspects in a change situation, both management and the employees will be interviewed.
My thesis will be done in the middle of the change process in two universities of applied sciences. I will study one department of the organizations. My ambitious vision is that my study will help other departments and other universities of applied sciences in their changing situations. It could be wise to do another stydy after a couple of years to see if there is any change in the opinions after the change process.
I will use three methods to gather the information: observation, survey and interviews. I decided to use survey to gather the information from the employees and interviews to gather the information from the management. In that way I think I will receive wider range of material for my study and I can maybe make the gap between employees and management narrower. Observation happens quite naturally, since I´m working in the same department as I´m studying. I was concerned of my role as a researcher as I´m also a part of the work community I´m studying. That´s why I decided to gather information from the management and the employees. Also, now that I recognize my role, I think it´s possible to consciosly avoid bias.

Your idea/solution in one sentence: Several research methods and opinions from both management and employees will give wider perspective to the study.
