The aftermath of the 1994 Genocide
Rwanda has emerged as the top reformer in building a secure business environment in the World Bank’s ‘Doing Business 2010’ report...
Rwanda geographically called land of thousand of hills is country that suffered a massive genocide in 1994. The land that was covered with myriad of hills and resources which was attracting tourists became a land of sorrows and darkness. During this period of uncalled-for disaster, properties and natural resources were destroyed whilst millions of people were also massacred. The reminiscence of this disaster brings fear into the mind of Africans and the entire human race at large.
Upon all the ordeals that a nation like Rwanda has passed through, it has succeeded at last. According to a report officially aired at the World Bank Country office, Rwanda has emerged as the top reformer in building a secure business environment in the World Bank’s ‘Doing Business 2010’ report. It has moved from 143 to 67th position, ahead of Tunisia, Egypt, Ghana, Zambia, just a mention of few(http://www.doingbusiness.org/EconomyRankings/) in terms of effective business regulations and reforms in easing business operations in a country. According to macroeconomic experts and analysts, the county’s labour law and industrial reforms decreed recently has brought simplicity in starting-up processes. The start-up process which was once 14 days has been beaten down to only 2 days. Moreover, experts also attest that a new company law decreed by the government has led to an improved access to credit and protection of investors. Thumbs up to President Kagame and his government, the platform has now been set for internal and external investors to strike the anvil while it is hot.
Dear reader, the question I entreat you and I to contemplate on is that "will all these giant strides be attained if there is still an ongoing genocide?". The answer to this question is a “big” no which I agree you also think likewise. It’s high time for us the African people and the governments to rose up and joined hands as one people with a common destiny to promote lasting tranquillity among ourselves in this era of globalisation and technology advancement for technological innovations, and structural economic developments, thrive only on the soils of peace.
Research question: What can be done to promote peace within the African continent?
