Ethanol as fuel but from food products

The use of ethanol as fuel or as additive for running engine was growing in terms of popularity before it suddenly became unpopular. This is as a result of the controversy surrounding the issue of it production process.
Apart from fuel, ethanol has other industrial uses. It is used for making antiseptic, paints, drugs, beverages, etc. The largest single use of ethanol is as fuel and additive for engines. In Brazil, gasoline contains about 25% ethanol. Ethanol is also used either as fuel or an additive in the USA and other countries in the North and South America.
However, the increasing use of ethanol as fuel could have effect in the food industry and the general populace. This is because the major sources of this ethanol are from agricultural products such as sugar, cassava, maize etc. If the trend of ethanol as fuel continues, there is going to be scarcity of food in the near future.
Research question: With the increasing production and use of ethanol as fuel, how can food scarcity be adverted in the future?
