Finnish for Foreigners

Most foreigners who see Finnish language as a difficult language to learn do not see Finnish as a language that cannot be learnt within one year...

Many foreigners see Finnish language as a very difficult language. However, most foreigners who see Finnish language as a difficult language to learn do not see Finnish as a language that cannot be learnt within one year if a lot of effort is put in to learn the language. This is very realistic as I have seen some persons that have learnt Finnish within one year.

There are various opinions about how to learn foreign language easily. The one I will be mainly concern about now is “more effort to speak the language”. Many people believe that the more one put effort to speak a foreign language the more the person becomes confident and learn more. Also, most people believe that the more effort foreigners but to learn Finnish language, the more they are likely to get a Finn to help them through the language.

I have had a chat with some persons who think that a Finn that does not understand English language, who has had a pretty rough day might get angry with someone who tries to communicate in English, and will appreciate someone who speak the little Finnish he or she understands. However, some persons I have also chatted with think that the oppose will be the case if a Finn has had a stressful day. But, in my opinion, I think this will depend on the individual.

If most foreigners try to learn or use finnish language more by speaking to finns that comes their way, how can they be confident enough to speak the language not knowing the reaction from the Finn?

Research question: How can those learning finnish language practise by speaking with been affected or discouraged by any backlash?
