IT companies or IT expert individuals could gain a lot in doing business in Africa. There are many companies in Africa that are still behind in terms of the use of information technology. There are very large enterprises that do not have enough ICT system in their organization. Even most government institutions and ministries are far behind in terms of the use enhanced information system. So, they are still using old system of “paper work”
For example, there are very large enterprises that have not fully take advantage of the availability of the World Wide Web or the internet. However, they may have their reasons for this, but the reasons will not be far from the fact that they have their reservations on internet related problems that may put their business at risk.
There are also a lot of SMEs in Africa, especially in West Africa that are not really using the internet, although the internet is a very popular marketing point. Also, intranet is not use in many government ministries and SMEs internally; let alone, other integrated system like CRM and ERP system.
IT companies have to market their service to these public and private organizations. Even IT companies in Finland can do some marketing get a major IT market shares in Africa. Their marketing strategy should be strong enough to win over those companies that are still reluctant to adopt the system.
