Erosion and flooding the some major city in Africa

Many efforts to solve the problem of flooding and erosion in some part of Africa have not been productive so far...

Erosion and flooding are very common in most part of Africa. These have in many cases resulted to the loss of lives and properties. Erosion and flooding affect both cities and villages in Africa. There are various factors that lead to erosion and flooding in those parts of Africa. Some of the factors are land degradation as a result of extensive land use, lack of master plan and survey, poor drainage system, bad roads, etc. Sometimes, heavy down pour often trigger the erosion and flood. In most cases, it can take several months before water in a flooded area can be completely drained.

Many efforts to solve the problem of flooding and erosion in some part of Africa have not been productive so far. Nigeria is one of the Africa countries that are experiencing flood and erosion. One of the states in Nigeria that is always affected by flood and erosion is Edo state. Anytime there is a heavy down pour, some part of the state will be taken over by water. The state government has tried to find solution to this problem for many years now but to no avail. I believe that if any company or individual can guarantee the government of a permanent solution to the problem, the government will not hesitate to award the contract for the problem to be solved. This could be an opportunity for any company that can handle the situation.

There are competent firms that can solve this problem permanently, but the authority or government concerned with the problem has not been lucky to link up with these firms. In some cases, the government are not willing to give the work to the expert that can handle the issue because of the huge money involved.

Research question: How can all the barriers to permanently solving the problem of erosion and flood be resolved?
